[comp.databases] Anyone heard of ACT?

drack@titan.tsd.arlut.utexas.edu (Dave Rackley) (06/06/91)

A co-worker asked if I had heard of a database called 'ACT' or sounding like
'ACT'. She thinks it runs on a PC, but wasn't sure.

If you've heard of this product or used it, would you let me know?

Thanks in advance,

ACT, or more properly, ACT!, is a contact-management program with a lot
of nifty features. (Associates and Contacts Tracker, I think.) It can
develop a database of names addrsses and phones for all your clients/
suppliers/whatever, and you just keep it humming alongside your work
space as you go about your work, calling leads, etc. and with a minimum
of keystrokes you can record actions taken, agreements made, etc. All
the small lookup tables can be customized for your uses. If you have
form letters to generate -- e.g. "I enjoyed our talk today, here is
the brochure you requested" you can punch 'em out with a keystroke or
two. I've seen it demo'ed, it is very impressive. If you are a salesman
or someone else who simply has to deal with a large number of people
throughout the day, with a limited number of standard actions and
responses, it could be an invaluable productivity booster.

As for general database management, phoo, forget it. It can't be
programmed.

Several years ago like over 3, I was still a user, a telemonkey to be
more precise (telemarketer). I had a copy of a packaged software called
ACT, it was a sales reps package, with some neat features, like it "buzzed"
you for scheduled calls etc.. I also heard of annother I believe database
product by that name when I first came aboard here but....

Anyways the canned ACT was a PC based pkg.
