We are looking for a Clipper-like program for SCO Unix 386. That is, a program for compiling dbase programs into native executable code. We don't want something like Foxplus which compiles into interpreted code. This would be too slow for our purposes. I have heard rumours of Foxplus having a native code compiler. Can anyone confirm this one way or another? Otherwise, what other products are available? Thanks, Jayen. -- ------- UUCP: {uunet,ukc,ubc-cs,mcvax}!munnari.oz!jayen ARPA: jayen%munnari.oz@uunet.uu.net

Clipper is a tokenizing compiler and not a native code compiler. Last native code version was A'86 as far as I recall. tom leylan (ex-Senior Systems Analyst / Nantucket Corporation)

Otherwise, what >other products are available? - THE GOOD NEWS - I have talked with Fox Software and they have confirmed that they are going to come out with a FoxPro compiler for Unix/Xenix that would produce a binary image. - THE BAD NEWS - They will be STARTING the project in this fall. This means it will be far in the future before the product will be released to the market. I guess Fox just does not make as much money off of the Unix market as opposed to the DOS market ;-). - THE BEST NEWS - What you really need to do is talk with the folks at DeskTop Ai. He has a product called x2c (pronounced like ecstasy) that translates X-Base source code into ANSI-C. The c source can then be run on any platform you want.
