[comp.databases] Courses in RDBMS design/theory?

kristoff@genbank.bio.net (David Kristofferson) (06/19/91)

I am posting this for a colleague who does not have access to USENET.
Please respond to his e-mail address listed below, NOT to me.

Thanks!

I am a Graduate Research Assistant in the Theoretical Biology group at
LANL. I'm to design and develop a database, but I am a neophyte with
RDBMS's. Does anyone know of a (short) course in relational design and
theory happening this summer? I have been querying the GenBank
database with SQL and learning about Unix (shell scripts, the OS, etc.)
for a few months, but my background is liberal arts (in other words, I
want to be challenged, but something like Stanford's Short Course on
Modern Systems Architecture is a little too elevated for me...).
Anywhere in the continental US is feasible, although the closer to New
Mexico the better.

Please respond directly to me, since we do not yet have on-site USENET
capability. Thanks very much for any and all help...
