INFORMIX has recently stated that it's INFORMIX-OnLine 4.10 release is the first DBMS to meet the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SQL DBMS standard (FIPS 127.1). Does anyone know if this standard is supported by a program test suite and, if so, is this code available via ftp from anywhere (or can it be purchased from NIST)? Thanks in advance for your help. Thanks in advance for your help. The NIST SQL Test Suite, version 2.0, is available from: National Institute of Standards and Technology Computer Systems Laboratory Software Standards Validation Group Building 225, Room A266 Gaithersberg, MD 20899 Contact: Joan Sullivan, 301-975-3258, or Joseph Collica, 301-975-3267. There is a license agreement and fee of $1795 for a one-cpu license, 3595 for a four-up license. NIST publishes new versions of the test suite every so often, improving coverage or adding new standard features. I have no idea when they will meet the new SQL standard. I also got a copy of the Validated Processor List, NISTIR 4500, which is now being distributed through the National Technical Information Service. You can get a subscription by calling 703-487-4630, individual copies at 703-487-4650. Ordering number is PB91-937300. I don't know how often this list is published, but I think the next one is July, 1991. The one I have is January 1991, and lists the following vendors who are validated: IBM Corporation (SQL/DS Version 3 Rel 2) ShareBase Corporation (ShareBase III Release 1) Unisys Corporation (SQLDB Mark 3.9) Sharebase can claim first conformance, they did it aways back (in fact, the validation expired last month and they need to be revalidated, I guess). Certainly Informix wasn't first by any means. Other corporations may have been validated but not yet published, such as Informix and ORACLE. -- -- Bob Muller Objectivity, Inc. bobm@objy.com
