The control characters with the 8th bit set are usually called the C1 set. In ANSI X3.64-1979 (and NAPLPS, as I remember), they are as follows. I don't know if this corresponds to an ISO standard, though it's fairly likely. Hex ANSI Name Function ---------------------------------------------------------------- 84 8/4 IND Index 85 8/5 NEL Next Line 86 8/6 SSA Start of Selected Area 87 8/7 ESA End of Selected Area 88 8/8 HTS Horizontal Tab Set 89 8/9 HTJ Horizontal Tab with Justify 8A 8/10 VTS Vertical tab Set 8B 8/11 PLD Partial Line Down 8C 8/12 PLU Partial Line Up 8D 8/13 RI Reverse Index 8E 8/14 SS2 Single Shift 2 8F 8/15 SS3 Single Shift 3 90 9/0 DCS Device Control String 91 9/1 PU1 Private Use 1 92 9/2 PU2 Private Use 2 93 9/3 STS Set Transmit State 94 9/4 CCH Cancel Character 95 9/5 MW Message Waiting 96 9/6 SPA Start of Protected Area 97 9/7 EPA End of Protected Area 9B 9/11 CSI Control Sequence Introducer 9C 9/12 ST String Terminator 9D 9/13 OSC Operating System Command 9E 9/14 PM Privacy Message 9F 9/15 APC Application Program Command ---------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on the precise meanings, see ANSI Standard X3.64. -- ==================== The greatest warriors are the ones Clayton Elwell who fight for peace.
