New Zealand UNIX Systems User Group (NZUSUGI) 1988 Conference, June 9-11 1988 Wellington, New Zealand Call for Participation NZUSUGI is organising its 5th annual conference for UNIX systems users in Wellington, the Harbour Capital of New Zealand. The theme of the conference is "Computing for the 1990s", with special emphasis on targeting an audience of Central and Local Government representatives. Computing for the 1990s will show the Government and businesses that UNIX based solutions are the way to go - because they offer a non-proprietary system which is rapidly becoming a standard operating system for mini-mainframe installations, and some PCs. The plush new Plaza International Hotel in central Wellington has been chosen as a venue appropriate to the progressive thrust of this conference. Invitations are being sent to a large number of influential Government officials, local body administrators, and senior business personnel. As at previous NZUSUGI conferences, there will be a cast of renown international speakers who will update participants on the latest UNIX developments worldwide. International speakers already arranged include Jim Clark of the Singapore UNIX Users Association, Stuart Hooper of The Santa Cruz Operation, and Jim Bennett of Convergent Technologies. Other likely international speakers are Geoff Morris of the X/Open group and Bill Joy of Sun Microsystems. Immediately preceding the conference, and also in Wellington, there is very likely to be a workshop on workstation environments for Data Processing and Information Processing Managers, and Systems Programmers. There is also a possibility that some UNIX tutorials will be offered in association with the conference. If you wish to present a paper, acceptance of which entitles you to a free conference registration, please contact the local speakers organiser, Dr Dick Cooper, ADATA, PO Box 2555, Christchurch, New Zealand, dick%cantuar@comp.vuw.ac.nz or ...uunet!vuwcomp!cantuar!dick Failing that, I can pass on any expressions of interest to him. Note that from outside New Zealand and Australia, e-mail to me should use my signature address rather than the usenet return path address (I am not sure if the Reply-to address mechanism works). Otherwise if you would just like to attend, please respond to me, including a postal address for the delivery of further information as it becomes available. Registration forms are expected to be available in February. -- Ray Brownrigg UUCP: {utai!calgary, uunet}!vuwcomp!dsiramd!ray Applied Maths Div, DSIR ACSnet: ray@dsiramd.nz[@munnari] PO Box 1335 System: OLIVETTI/AT&T 3B2/400B+, System V R3.0 Wellington, New Zealand "UNX -rules -OK"
