Fifth Workshop
On
Real-Time Software and Operating Systems

May 12-13 1988
Omni-Shoreham Hotel
Washington, DC

Sponsored by

The IEEE Computer Society

The USENIX Association

This year's workshop broadens the scope to include general real-time
systems. This workshop will bring together researchers, designers,
and implementers of real-time operating systems and software. There
will be a substantial emphasis on practical experience, so workers
from industrial organizations are encouraged to attend.
Topics of specific interest include:

Primary requirements of real-time systems
Distributed real-time operating systems
Application-specific operating systems
Practical experiences and implications
Exotic applications: medicine, music, etc.
Architectural support for real-time
Language, programming support, and reusability
Types of real-time constraints
Scheduling and resource management
Predictability, adaptability, and maintainability
Reliability and fault tolerance
Instrumentation and performance measurement
Case studies

The format of the workshop will be geared to encourage intense
technical interactions and focussed discussions.

Attendance will be limited to between 75 and 100
 active workers in the
field. In order to participate
in the workshop, you must submit four copies of
an extended abstract or position paper of up to 5 pages describing
your current efforts to Lui Sha by
March 1, 1988 . The abstract should focus on insights and lessons
gained from recent research and practical experience. Complete
details regarding the workshop will be sent to all participants along
with the acceptance letters by March 21, 1988. A digest of accepted
abstracts will be made available to participants at the workshop.

The closing date for submissions to the IEEE/USENIX Fifth Workshop On
Real-Time Software and Operating Systems is near!

The Workshop will be held May 12-13 1988 at the Omni-Shoreham Hotel
Washington, DC

You *must* submit an abstract to attend! This is DIFFERENT
from other, USENIX only, workshops. Donner tells me he'll
accept abstracts via e-mail. I'm interested in getting a good
USENIX showing in this first, cooperative effort.
