[comp.org.usenix] C++ tape

peter@usenix.UUCP (Peter Salus) (01/01/88)

USENIX is putting together a tape of C++ software.

The goal is to gather together as much stuff as we can
so people new to C++ have a significant amount of code
they can read to see how things are done in C++.
Many things people talked about at the USENIX C++ Workshop
in Santa Fe last November will
be on the tape. Perhaps you have something to contribute.

If so, please take a minute right now and contact

Peter H. Salus, Executive Director of USENIX
	+1 415-528-8649
	usenix!peter or peter@usenix.ORG

We must receive a tape and paper copies of all documentation by

	12:00PM PST Monday, February 22, 1988.

(this is an extension of the deadline announced earlier.)

It now appears that the C++ Proceedings (which will
contain all but one of the Workshop papers plus a number
of other important C++ papers) will total over 300 pages.
I still hope to have copies complete within 4 weeks and
on sale in Dallas at the USENIX technical conference.
Because of the size, I will not know the cost until the
printer gives me a cost estimate. I intend to keep it
below $20, if possible; if feasible, below $15. Ordering
information will be posted and will appear in the
January/February ;login:.

The first 1988 USENIX software tape is ready for
release. It contains C++ software and requires no AT&T
nor UC license.

It is being sent to all current Institutional and Supporting
members of the USENIX Association.

Individual members of USENIX who wish to obtain a copy of the tape
may request it from the Association Office, which will then send the
requestor a "Tape Release Form." The form plus a check for
$125 should be returned to the office, whereupon the tape will be
sent out, postpaid in the US. Foreign individuals will be
billed for the additional (air) postage/shipping.

The tape, in tar format is 1200ft., 1600bpi, and contains:

GNU C++ Version 1.21.0 (Michael Tiemann)
	OOPS (Kieth E. Gorlen)
Storage management class and String class... (Peter A. Buhr)
	InterViews 2.3 (Mark A. Linton)
C++ Subroutines for string manipulation (Arthur Zemon)

The tape is not available to non-members of the USENIX Association,
so, if you want the tape, you must become a member.

Send a postal address to {uunet, ucbvax}!usenix!office or write
	USENIX Association
	PO Box 2299
	Berkeley, CA 94710

Individual membership is $40/year and gets you a year's subscription
to COMPUTING SYSTEMS; six issues of login, the Association's
bimonthly newsletter; discounts at the two technical conferences;
and a Green Lantern secret decoder ring.

Ran out of rings? Aargh! Undoubtably the work of our arch-enemy, Sinestro!
Quick, all loyal members of the Corps who already have a ring! Charge your
ring with the living green energy from the power battery of the Guardians:

	In brightest day,
	in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil's might,
	beware my power -
	Green Lantern's Light!

And I shall shed my light over dark evil,
for the dark things cannot stand the light...
the light of the Green Lantern!
