The first thing I want to say is that I don't understand this talk about "blame". I (and a few other people who shall remain nameless) tried to have a small BOF at Washington. We did not give anybody enough advance notice for such a BOF to be a success. We did feel such a BOF is important and so I took steps so that people could know that there was going to be a BOF at all. Call it advertising. If you really think somebody should be "Blamed" for allowing such a topic into a Usenix, I wish you would write me and explain how this is going to ruin the technical conference. I will do my best to reply without stooping to rhetoric. Unless someone else steps up, I guess I am chairing the BOF by default. If people have things they would like me to bring up, please send me mail. I think a men's BOF is a great idea. I seem to remember Ron and Barry sitting at the next table singing "Look for the Union Label". You should feel free to have one, just not in the middle of the room while I am holding a BOF. The BOF is scheduled for 8pm Tuesday. Everybody is welcome to attend, everybody is welcome to send me ideas. liz sommers@caip.rutgers.edu rutgers!unirot!liz

There are quite a few men around who are concerned about making the Unix community a more comfortable place for women and minorities, and it seems clear to me that a men's BOF could be a very healthy thing. -- Melinda Shore ..!ihnp4!gargoyle!sphinx!shor University of Chicago Computation Center shor@sphinx.uchicago.edu

Let's stop this bs, any BOF is a valid BOF. None are required to have any specific form/content, all must have interest to be successful. Let's not perpetrate any more net bandwidth on this (oh! sure this will only generate more, but ...........O'God). Monkey Face

Seems to me I remember that there was a "singles" BOF at a Usenix a few years back, attended mostly by avid readers of (then) net.singles. The only objection I (or anyone else) had was that I didn't find out about it until it was over. Nobody claimed that it was technical. So what's the big deal? P.S. If I ever go to another Usenix, I'm going to suggest a juggler's BOF. It'd be a bunch of fun. -- Geoff Kuenning geoff@ITcorp.com {hplabs,ihnp4}!trwrb!desint!geoff

The Women's BOF will be held on Tuesday from 6-8pm. When it was scheduled back in April, it was the _only_ BOF scheduled for Tuesday night. (So much for planning ahead... ) We're also trying to schedule a Women's Lunch on Thursday. There will be a signup sheet somewhere near the BOF board so we can get an idea of how many people are interested. See you in B'more! -- Pat Wilson paw3c@acc.virginia.edu || uunet!virginia!paw3c || paw3c@virginia.BITNET
