[comp.org.usenix] Newsgroup discussions off track?

cazier@mbunix.mitre.org (Cazier) (07/17/90)

As an "outsider" to this newsgroup, I'm a little astonished by the lack
of technical discussions within. About all I've seen in the past two weeks
is about the Anaheim hot-tub party, cheap youth hostel info, and bookshop
complaints! Boring to say the least!

How do we go about getting back into usenix stuff?
Or does this indicate that this newsgroup has deteriorated to a point
of little use any more?

jik@pit-manager.mit.edu (Jonathan I. Kamens) (07/18/90)

Why do discussions in this newsgroup have to be "technical" in
nature? We've got an entire hierarchy devoted to technical issues of
virtually any sort; I therefore fail to see why technical discussions
would or should take place in this newsgroup.

All three discussions you mention in your post are related to Usenix
in some way, and pretty much all of them belong more in this
newsgroup than they would in any other. I therefore see no
justification for your complaints. If you don't want to read about
what's being discussed, then put the subjects in your kill file.
