There will be a Nutshell Handbook BOF Wednesday the 12th from 8:30 to 10:30. (Location TBA in the conference program and other usual places.) O'Reilly & Associates authors and editors will talk about what it's like to write a technical book, and then will field comments and questions. We'd especially like to solicit comments about existing books (what should we change?) and suggestions for new books (what should we develop?). The authors and editors who plan to be at the BOF (and/or at author-signings and question periods at the O'Reilly booth throughout the show) are: - Hal Stern (from Sun, author of Managing NFS and NIS, which is being introduced at the conference. Hal had the original idea for this BOF.) - Larry Wall (co-author of Programming Perl and creator of that program, as well as many others.) - Donnalyn Frey (author of !%@:: A Directory of Electronic Mail Addressing and Networks. She is also a UNIX systems and communications technical writer and runs a computer public relations and technical writing company.) - Jerry Peek (author of MH & xmh: E-mail for Users & Programmers. Now a writer and user advocate for O'Reilly & Associates.) - Dale Dougherty (author of Sed & Awk, and author/co-author/editor of many other Nutshell Handbooks. Editor for O'Reilly & Associates.) - Mike Loukides (author of System Performance Tuning and UNIX for FORTRAN Programmers. Editor for O'Reilly & Associates.) There may be other authors, authors-to-be, or editors. Hope you can make it! --Jerry Peek, O'Reilly & Associates jerry@ora.com, uunet!ora!jerry
