Has anyone done, or thought about doing anything to make the lpr command in 4.2BSD able to choose one of several identical printers, just like tip 'hunts' a free autodialer? In /etc/printcap I would like to specify something like ...:lp=/dev/tty01,/dev/tty02:... and then have lpr to select the printer with the smallest queue left, the fewest number of bytes to print or whatever criteria that could get the printing job done as fast as possible. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Bjorn Eriksen ENEA DATA Sweden UUCP: {seismo, decvax, philabs}!{mcvax, ukc, unido}!enea!ber ARPA: decvax!mcvax!enea!ber@berkeley.arpa mcvax!enea!ber@seismo.arpa
