I would like to solicit some opininons from the net as to what the best bet for computational resources for a consortium of three departments (IE, Stat, CS) in a university is. They are planning to run Operations Research and Statistics oriented packet programs, and write some of their own. The facilities will be run basically for graduate research. The total number of users will probably reach about a hundred, the maximum number of users at one time will probably be around forty. They need high floating point performance, but not necessarily excellent graphics. They will probably be needing a lot of storage. They have about $150K to spend.
