[comp.edu] Topics #3

shaffer@operations.dccs.upenn.edu (Earl Shaffer) (05/08/87)

Hello:

This is the third in my "questions" postins. I received a
fair amount of responses to the old postings. Lets keep
active dialogs going about these and other questions that
concern us as people interested in Computer Science education.

	1) Should CS student be held to the same moral and ehtical
rules and guidelines as Law students and acccounting
majors (ie. cheating=dropped from the roles)

	2) Do you agree with the ACM guidelines for CS ugrad course?
(If you are not familiar with them they are in SIGCSE)

	3) How well are "topics" courses being used in schools
around the country (ie. new topics like Expert Systems and
	   new languages)

	4) Should there be a formal certification process (unlike the
current one) that tests CS grads on specific certification
areas (such as software engineer, UNIX/IBM systems programmer)

	5) Are 4GLs, relational database packages (ie Oracle) and
application generators putting the "squeeze" on traditional
application programmers. (ie. ads say "program development
	   without programmers)

Please post your general responses to the net so that we can
all share in the discourse. I hope that these questions will
	start some people thinking.
