We don't do this, but does anyone use the organization of having a single concepts-only introductory course which all students are required to take along with one of several available language-only courses? The concepts-only course might meet three times a week while the language-only courses might start in the second week and meet initially two or three times a week with this dropping to once a week once necessary preliminaries ( basic language constructs) were done. Exams would be given in the concepts-only course while programming assignments would be given and collected in the language-only courses. If you do this or something like it, what has been your experience? If you don't do this, what do you think of this organization? Of course, there is a major problem in coordinating the various courses.
