Tele-Teaching International, Inc. in Bethesda, MD. completed negotiations with China's State Education Commission to link Beijing Normal University with universities in the USA. OPTEL, the link, utilitizes a new PC-based video/phone system to enable participants to keep current of developments in fields of mathematics and bio-medicine. Courses from Harvard and Boston Universities are transmitted thru the system to China; they originate with a simple, direct dial-up, telephone call from Boston to Beijing. The courses are simulcast in Chinese or any other language. Professors and students in both locations can share full-color, high-resolution video images. "Global classroom" participants also can interact with their counterparts and mark up, pinpoint or zoom in on a shared video image in real time while listening to and talking with the instructor.
