 AN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION PROGRAMME

 WHAT IS IT?
 The Programme is based at the University of Lancaster, UK.
 It's brief includes activities such as:
 - the review, evaluation and dissemination of recent and
    current activity in the field of IT and Education;
 - the identification of the needs of education in relation
    to IT;
 - the stimulation of relevant research and the formulation
    of research guidelines;
 - the establishment and maintenance of a database of
    relevant work and the coordination and networking of
    those active in the field, including cognitive
    scientists, educational researchers, practitioners and
    policy makers.

 To service these commitments The Programme regularly
 produces booklets (normally between 20 and 40 pages) as
 seminar reports or reviews of current research. Most of
 these booklets are freely available to those working in IT
 and Education. A selection of titles is given below.

 The Programme also maintains a database of (about 300)
 PEOPLE who are actively engaged in using or developing IT
 applications in Education. The database retains not only
 individuals' various 'electronic addresses', but also their
 telephone number and postal address. (It is a good idea to
 *establish* communication by a method more universal than
 Email, such as post or telephone). Other details held
 include REFERENCES to recent publications, an ABSTRACT of
 current interests and a PROFILE consisting of keywords
 defining peoples' areas of interest. The Programme is
 happy to interrogate the database and send results to
 anyone not able to contact the system themselves.

 This is the structure of the database showing field names:
 (Record sizes vary - most are between 1200 and 1600 chars).
