I'm teaching an introductory CS course for majors at UC Davis. I use Scheme and Sussman and Abelson, supplemented by my own notes. My little experiment has come up for review and certain faculty members would like to see my little course go away and take introductory CS back to the stone age of teaching "Here's an if-statement, now go write a program using if-statements." I believe that CS should be introduced the same way that Chemistry and Physics are introduced. I need some help. The faculty has asked for alist of other schools doing what I'm doing. If you are using Scheme, Sussman and Abelson, or both in an introductory CS course, please send me mail telling me what school you're at and a few short comments about why you are doing so. Thanks. --phil-- Send replies to: -- Phil Windley | windley@iris.ucdavis.edu Division of Computer Science | ucbvax!ucdavis!iris!windley College of Engineering | (916) 752-7324 (or 3168) University of California, Davis | Davis, CA 95616

We, at the University Bordeaux 1, decided that the first programming language taught to students of Mathematics and CS will be Scheme. We will use Abelson & al's book and the PCS (Texas Instruments) implementation. The first course begins in January. I think that in Brest (France) they are doing the same thing, and they translated the book into French. Pierre Cast\'eran.
