I'm sorry to enter this discussion so late.  Yes, you're right;  At CMU the role
that undergraduates play as individuals is the role of slaves.  I've seen some
pretty hairy job descriptions around here followed by:

        $4.25/Hour  Must be Work Study

Still, if a lot of undergraduates disappeared from the scene, or stopped paying
their bills, it would have a very serious financial impact on this under-endowed
degree mill.  I've heard unofficially that half of the yearly budget comes frodm
tuition.
