[comp.edu] computer architecture: text recommendation?

stevev@tekchips.LABS.TEK.COM (Steve Vegdahl) (06/20/89)

I will be teaching a computer architecture course this fall (typically
taken by sophomores/juniors), and would be interested in recommendations
(or disrecommendations) for a textbook. The course will center on the
register-transfer level and instruction-set architecture design. It will
also cover RICSs/CISCs, caching, support for parallel processing, protection,
vector and horizontal architectures, and (possibly) highly parallel
architectures such as the connection machine.

Please send responses to stevev@crl.labs.tek.com; I'll summarize.
