[comp.edu] Hypertext Tutorial Examples wanted

leeday@watdcsu.waterloo.edu (Lee Meredith Day - I.S.) (06/28/89)

Can you help me? I am looking for examples of what I call a
"HyperTutorial".

A HyperTutorial is a learning package in a hypertext
environment. It is not a reference system, but rather a
tutorial on one or more related topics.

One example with which many Mac users may be familiar is the
tutorial on HyperTalk. I need access to other tutorials on
different topics (examples: World War I, Introduction to
Communications, The Five Great Lakes, Life in Southern Burma
- these are merely hypothetical examples).

I will use them to gain a better understanding of the
HyperTutorial. I am writing an undergraduate, 8-month
thesis on HyperText in the secondary school system.
Eventually, I must conduct a demonstration
with some high school students, and if I find something
suitable, I may use it with the author's permission.

I don't have funding. I would prefer that people (most
likely fellow researchers, or teachers, professors) choose
to share their software with me for research purposes. I
will forward my comments on the software if requested.

My thesis is on "Critical Thinking and HyperText in the
Secondary School System". The topics of the HyperTutorials
which anyone may suggest need not necessarily be geared
toward the "layperson", however, a very high-level tutorial,
or one that only makes sense in a specific context probably
won't be very useful.

To help prevent duplication of effort, I already know about:

     - the stacks included with HyperCard

     - envelopes included with "GUIDE" by Owl International

-just about every educational HyperCard stack which has been
     posted to the nets

     - Kinko's Academic Courseware Exchange (in case you don't
know, Kinko's Service Corporation distributes "Low Cost
Software for Higher Education" for the Macintosh. As far as
I know, you can ask for a catalog at a Kinko's retail
outlet. The Spring 1989 catalog has 150 titles, developed
by professors, teachers, etc. Most titles are priced from
about $7 to $35 - some class sets are also available.)

I have access to HyperCard and Guide for the Mac, and Guide
for the IBM.

Any help will be appreciated.
