[comp.edu] Computer Generated Tests for introductory psychology

I have been working some time now with a psychology professor who has
evaluated several books on introductory psychology. Many of these books
are sold along with test generation software to make it easier for the
professor to make up quizzes and tests. It's obviously beneficial in an
area like intro psych since the questions can be true/false, multiple
choice, or matching. Along with the generation software, the publishers
include disks full of questions, grouped according to the chapter of the
book.

The software they provide you with is very weak. The generation
capabilities are very limited. Even the questions they provide you with
are "questionable" as far as clarity or usefulness.

* Does anyone know of a flexible and powerful test generation/question bank
manager program? It would be useful to generate tests composed of
true/false, multiple choice, and matching questions. It would also be
useful to be able to manage the data base of questions/answers.

I have heard of places that will do test generation for individuals
(something like "Indiana Testing Services"). Do they use computers to do
the generation (besides word processing)?

* Is there a standard format for storing a test question bank?
