I've tried a couple of times, going through Dr. Glenn Ricart and others, to obtain a particular file from the UMDC.UMD.EDU FTP archives, to no avail. Now I'd like to make an open request to the Usenet... Somewhere in the FTP archives of umdc.umd.edu (I believe, though it is possible that it's on another machine too) is an excellent article from Dr. Marcia Halio of UMD entitled "Student Writing: Can the Machine Affect the Message?". Dr. Halio assured me that it was available via FTP access, though she has no idea how FTP works. Anyway, I don't have any information further than that and when I try to connect to the UMD FTP server, it doesn't seem to allow anonymous FTP connections at all. If *you* can connect to the machine, dig through the archives, and find the 'straight ASCII' version of the article, I would *greatly* appreciate receiving a copy of it! Thanks greatly for your help, in advance!! -- Dave Taylor Intuitive Systems Mountain View, California taylor@limbo.intuitive.com or {uunet!}{decwrl, apple}!limbo!taylor
