[comp.edu] CRSP & Compustat tapes on VMS

amaranth@vela.acs.oakland.edu (Paul Amaranth) (07/24/90)

Our business school maintains a subscription to the CRSP and Compustat
database tapes (stock prices, company performance etc over many years)
which will be maintained on a VMS system. Loading the data doesn't
seem to present much of a problem - other than the space required, but
extracting usable subsets is.

CRSP provides a CD ROM version with an interface program, but for various
reasons, this was rejected by the business school.

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with these
products in a VMS environment and particularly how the retrieval problem
was handled (note I did not say "solved" 8-).

Please email responses to me and I will summarize if there is sufficient
interest.
