[comp.edu] CALL FOR VOTES: sci.engr

CALL FOR VOTES: sci.engr

Please do yourself the courtesy of at least reading through the entire
posting before you attempt to vote. This group has gone through a very
long discussion period (and I apologize to you if you were inconvenienced
by it). We needed extra time to hash out exactly what belongs in this
group and exactly where the group itself belongs.

The original call for discussion was for an engineers' newsgroup that
involved several non-technical issues as potential topics. Well, after
much discussion, it was decided that the non-technical issues should be
split off from the technical ones as much as possible. So I'm moving
the non-technical stuff off to the side for continued discussion later.
(There is interest, but we need to do some more homework to determine
where that stuff belongs.)

Here is the charter for sci.engr:

(1) To examine engineering problems in academia and industry, and the
    approaches taken in solving them;
(2) To discuss tools used by the engineer (e.g. software, mechanisms,
    algorithms, strategies, etc.);
(3) To exchange information relevant to the accomplishment of engineering
    tasks.

This group would be unmoderated.

Now, here is how to vote:

Send e-mail. If you are voting IN FAVOR of sci.engr as proposed, the body
of your message needs to read

I vote yes for sci.engr.

and it needs to be sent to me at lvron@earth.lerc.nasa.gov.

If, on the other hand, you are voting AGAINST sci.engr as proposed, the
body of your message needs to read

I vote no for sci.engr.

and it needs to be sent to Dave Liebal at eclieb@earth.lerc.nasa.gov.

For those of you who insist on using 'R' to vote, Dave will post a
message to accompany this vote call, and his post will appear in
news.groups and several other locations where this group has been
discussed. I apologize for any potential confusion here.

Dave will help me tally the votes. Here's a caution that you veteran
net.voters get all the time: please follow the voting instructions, as
much as you possibly can, as they are stated here. I want to accept
your vote, but I (like many other net.vote-takers) don't have time to
search through comments, incorrectly written votes, etc. to get to the
point. So do try to get it right the first time.

The voting period begins when Eliot Lear posts this message in
news.announce.newgroups. As soon as I see it there, I will see that
it is cross-posted to several other groups in which interested parties
have been found. The voting period will end on 09/10.

Questions, comments, and vote-related problems should not be posted.
Send 'em to me, UNDER SEPARATE HEADING, please. Thanks in advance.
