[comp.edu] C++ for beginners

usenet@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU (USENET News Administration) (08/25/90)

DiskTutor by Borland-Osborne/Mcgraw-Hill because of their book text combo and
because I'd like to do something interesting with oop in the spring. I was
going to start with plain C but C++ seems so much clearer. The problem I have
is that the book part of the package assumes that the reader already knows
plain C, so it is useless as a beginners text. I'me considering Programming in
C++ or the Waite Groups C++ Programming but they both assume the user is coming
from C.

Does anyone know of any book which does not assume previous C or Pascal or etc
knowledge. I think it will be easier to show them how it 'was' done in C from
C++ rather than try to explain objects and classes after plain C -- I may be
wrong but I'm going to give it a try.

Any suggestions much appreciated.
