The first (to our knowledge) internet programming contest is shaping up (see a previous article in comp.edu). The contest will take place on Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00 pm Eastern Time. Modeled after the ACM programming contest this contest is being sponsored by the Duke University chapter of the ACM and is offered solely for thrills and fun; no monetary awards will be made. The list of schools that have signed up to participate so far includes: Duke University, NC University of Pennsylvania ??, Amsterdam, The Netherlands University of Missouri, Rolla Case Western Reserve University, OH Florida International University University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) University of Virginia University of Denver, CO Emory University, GA Georgia Tech Armstrong State College, GA University of Canterbury, New Zealand University of Sydney, Australia University of Alabama Naval Postgraduate School, CA Old Dominion University, VA Bucknell University PA St. Olaf College, MN Merrimack College, ?? so that this contest has the potential to be truly worldwide. We are still accepting participants. As a reminder: the language is C, the platform is UNIX (shell scripts are used to wrap programs for judging to be sent to Duke), and the potential for fun is enormous. If you are interested in having a team participate or need more information please contact: Dave Kotz (dfk@cs.duke.edu) or Owen Astrachan (ola@cs.duke.edu) Note that this contest is NOT limited to students or those in education. People from all walks of life can participate.
