[comp.edu] Looking for reviewers for new advanced Lisp text

morgan@unix.SRI.COM (Morgan Kaufmann) (11/10/90)

Morgan Kaufmann Publishers is developing a major new AI Lisp
programming textbook for publication in 1991. This book will
be unique in that it will teach AI programming through examination of
well known, complex AI programs and will show how they can be debugged
and improved. The emphasis throughout is on good programming style
and on understanding the AI techniques that the programs implement.
The book will probably be most useful for students and other readers
with previous Lisp exposure although it may also be appropriate for
some with only a general AI background.

We are interested in hearing from people who would like to contribute
to the book's development by reviewing a preliminary version of the
manuscript. We are particulary looking for reviewers who fall into
one of the following categories:

    1) Teachers of AI Lisp programming courses for students with some
Lisp programming background. Such a course might very well be
using Charniak, Riesbeck, McDermott and Meehan's "AI Programming".

    2) Teachers of introductory Lisp programming courses who find most
introductory Lisp books to be somewhat too shallow for their students
and to be insufficient in teaching good programming style and pre-
    sentation of AI programming techniques.

    3) Teachers of general AI introductory courses that have an intensive
Lisp project or laboratory component in which they use a separate text.

    4) Lisp programmers in industry who have considerable Lisp programming
experience and some experience with Lisp training.

In addition, we are especially interested in finding instructors who,
if they found the manuscript appropriate, would consider class testing it in
Spring semester (January) or Winter or Spring quarter courses in 1991.

If you are interested please send mail to morgan@unix.sri.com describing
your course, what book you are presently using and when you will next
teach this course. I will then send further information on the book.
