The department of Computer Science is going to teach C in its
Commercial Programming stream in 1991; previously, C knowledge
was acquired informally by students, through the need to submit
C-based assignments, in a wide range of final year undertakings.
At a glance, the following broad areas will be tackled within
a semester (13 2-hour lectures with accompanying tutes/labs):
Syntax and Use of the C (ANSI) Programming Language
Programming Standards/Style Issues
"Commercial" applications (report generation, data validation,
file processing, interactive systems etc.)
Management of C "systems" (make, sccs, etc.)
Further suggestions and/or critical comments with respect to the
above outline would be appreciated.
The aim of the course is primarily to expose students to the language,
with a secondary aim being the issues of style, large systems management,
applications that present various fundamentals (interactive programs,
screen management, file/database processing, data validation, etc.).
Pleased mail replies direct to me. Thank you.
