The fourth and final regular season contest of the American Computer
Science League's 1990-91 season has been completed, and the top schools
cumulative in each of ACSL's divisions are listed below. About 400
secondary schools nationwide and in Canada particpated in the contests
this year.
Seventy-five of the top schools will be competing "head-to-head" at
the All-Star Contest, to be held Memorial Day weekend in Houston.
Apple has donated a dozen Macs that will be awarded as the top team
prizes. In addition, a number of publisher have donated books that
will be awarded to top students.
Details for the curious: A team score is the sum of the top 5 students at
the school. Contests are divided into two parts: a programming problem,
and short problems that cover various topics in computer science.
For example, in the Senior and Intermediate Divisions, the short
problem topics for Contest #1 were Computer Number Systems and
Recursive Functions. Each part is worth 5 points, so the maximum
team score is 50: 5 students * 10 max pts/students.
