g_harrison@vger.nsu.edu (George C. Harrison, Norfolk State University) (05/19/91)
We have FOUR (undergraduate) courses that have some significant
__overlap__:
1) Assembly Language: This course mostly concentrates on programming in
some sort of assemply (usually VAX (VMS) MACRO) (perhaps as many as
7 programming assignments) REQUIRED
2) Computer Organization: Generic stuff like CPU structures, memory, I/O,
etc. .. Mostly HARWARD oriented REQUIRED NO PROGRAMMING
3) Computer Architecture: Different types of comp arch mainly based on
different CPU architectures OPTIONAL NO PROGRAMMING
4) Operating Systems: General theory of operating systems, processes, memory
(main and secondary), I/O, etc (usually one HUGE simulation program
required) REQUIRED
Does anyone with similar experiences have any suggestions on how these
courses could possibly be combined or modified to make them relatively
independent of each other.
