[comp.edu] ACM SIGGRAPH CG Courseware Repository survey

keith@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov (Stephan Keith FFD) (05/24/91)

Dear Educational Community:

The ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee is kicking off another project, the
Computer Graphics Courseware Repository. The following includes the text
from the mailer we are sending out along with the complete survey. This
includes a brief discussion about what CGCR is about.

Please either mail your complete survey to:

S.R. Keith
Vice Chair, ACM SIGGRAPH CGCR
424 Custer Road
Hayward, CA 94544

or via email to

Subject: CGCR Survey Response

Information follows:

The Computer Graphics Courseware Repository

The general purpose of the CGCR project is to acquire courseware that aids
in the teaching of computer graphics, referee the courseware, and provide a
means to redistribute it. In order to better meet the needs of the
Educational Community this repository will serve, we are conducting a survey
to acquire statistical information about that community. As an educator, we
need to know what your interests are, what you teach, at what level, the types
of computer platforms generally used and/or supported, and the type of media
you prefer for distributing reviewed CGCR software.

Most importantly, we need to know what type of courseware you are most
interested in contributing and acquiring. Currently, we are considering
including software and images, but we are open to suggestions for other types
of courseware.

Each courseware acquisition will be refereed and judged on its educational
value, its proficiency in teaching the subjects associated with Computer
Graphics, and its technical quality. Thus, accepted courseware can be
considered a refereed publication. A catalogue of courseware, complete
with evaluation results and a commentary will be published on a regular
basis. Commercial courseware will be evaluated in precisely the same manner.
The evaluation results and commentary will be published in the CGCR catalogue,
but the software will have to be acquired either from the vendor or via
established commercial software outlets.

To complete the survey, checking a box indicates an affirmative response.
There are places to add items not listed in this survey, so input for unique
elements are possible. There is also a section which allows you to comment
on any aspect of the survey, including criticisms and suggestions. Please
feel free to copy and distribute this survey to your colleagues. We value
your input.

Please complete and mail the survey back to us as soon as possible. Surveys
we receive prior to SIGGRAPH '91 will be used to generate statistics for
preliminary evaluation and future plans for the CGCR; however, surveys will
be accepted until 1 December 1991. The return address is on the address page
of the survey. [This is noted above]

Simply refold the survey with the above address showing, staple it, stamp it
and mail it back to us at your earliest convenience.

ATTENTION: email users ->

If you email your completed survey back to me, one way to reduce bandwidth
is to simply delete those items you say "no" to; all items which remain will
be considered a "yes". If you just send to me numbers to the questions as
affirmative responses, that will work just as well. Please do include
at least your name and your institution.

Very sincerely yours,
