The X11 Window system version (XTango) of the algorithm animation system Tango is available for distribution. I thought that readers of these newsgroups might be interested in using the system. XTango supports the creation of color or b/w animations of C programs in an X Windows and UNIX environment. To acquire Xtango, do the following: % ftp par.cc.gatech.edu (net address: 130.207.119.254) login: ftp % cd pub % binary % get xtango.tar.Z Then "uncompress" this file, and tar it out (via "tar xvf xtango.tar"). It will create a directory called xtango with all the pertinent subdirectories, etc. At that point, examine the file README in the top directory and just follow the instructions there. It should be easy and fast to install. XTango requires one of the HP, Athena, or Motif X widget libraries. If you have X, you're pretty sure to have the Athena widgets as well (at least). In the subdirectories we have included source, documentation, and a fairly large sample of different algorithms and their animations. The original (and more sophisticated) Tango system and the Dance animation editor are also available via anonymous ftp. If you'd like more information about them, please drop me a line. I maintain a mailing list for announcements about updates, bug fixes, tips, etc. so if you do ftp the system, please email me so that your name can be added to receive the messages. If you have questions or inquiries about the system, feel free to drop me a line and I will be glad to help. --John ------------------------------------------------------------------ John Stasko Assistant Professor College of Computing Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta, Georgia 30332-0280 (404) 853-9386 uucp: ...!{decvax,hplabs,ncar,purdue,rutgers}!gatech!cc!stasko Internet: stasko@cc.gatech.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Stasko uucp: ...!{decvax,hplabs}!gatech!cc!stasko Assistant Professor Internet: stasko@cc.gatech.edu College of Computing (404) 853-9386 Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta, Georgia 30332-0280
