Has anybody heard about, or had any experience with NTU? I know they offer video classes in comp.sci and engineering fields, but was wondering if a degree from that institution is worth anything. Thanks very much for any information/assistance. -- howie uunet!bcstec!voodoo!howie

I just finished an Environmental Law course through NTU, and it was great. It's more than just a videotaped lecture series, since the Prof was set up (with visuals &c) for the remote folks, and was sensitive to our needs. And it was terrific to be able to take a course after the kids went to bed, instead of missing waking time with them. I didn't miss commuting time, parking hassles, or such very much either. I can't vouch for the worth or recognition value of the degree. Steve Frysinger

I was enrolled in NTU before I moved up here to Canada. The company I worked for in the US provided us with everything we needed. Basically the courses are live courses from participating universities with regular full time students attending. These included Georgia Tech, USC, and about 30 others that I can't recall right now. I watched the courses live via satellite and phoned in questions, etc. You could also watch the taped version if you wanted. Quizes, tests, assignments and exams were distributed and collected by someone at my company. They were then graded by the professor ( or assistant or whatever) and returned to us. (And they were NOT easy let me tell you :-) It was perfect for me because I worked full-time and it allowed the flexibility of watching the taped version at my convenience when I was scrunched for time. I wish there was something like that here! All degrees are accredited by their respective associations. So, it would be like getting a degree from a combination of all these great universities. You have to go through an admission procedure just like any other university, so call them up and get a catalog. It'll tell you everything you want to know and you'll be able to tell if it's right for you. omaya
