Hello, greetings from Hamburg,
I educate teachers in Hamburg (Germany) in EDP. This means the use of a PC
and to handle and teach software (Word, Multiplan, Lotus, Framework, Procomm,
Turbo Pascal, Basic etc.). For one year we are planning to establish a mailbox
for students, pupils and teachers use. The costs for hardware and mailbox-
software will not be the problem. Our schools are mostly equipped with
2400 Bits/sec modems, but have little knowledge, to handle it. We have some
ideas regarding the above mentioned subject, but no experience about:
1. What hardware should we use?
2. What operating system is suitable (Unix, MS-DOS etc.)?
3. What mailbox-programm should we use?
4. How much time the sysop has to calculate for users?
5. How often you have a system break down (if any)?
6. What newsgroups are interesting for students and pupils?
7. How active are the users?
8. Are there any American institutes willing to establish a link?
9. What else should we consider?
As you see I have a lot of questions and I would like to research the subject
carefully. I shall be in New York in August and early September and
would appreciate to meet and speak teachers, sysops and netusers.
I leave for vacation 1st of July (for California) and would appreciate,
if you could answer before this date, because later on I have no possibility
to read and answer email.
Regards
Hans
