We are currently looking at buying some lan software/hardware for a network of PC's and related peripherals. Unfortunately I have to come up with an initial configuration and cost analysis rather quickly. I also do not have very much experience in connecting those little machines... I have, however, worked with larger machines that are connected to all sorts of things that offers NFS, rcp, rlogin, ftp, telnet, and other nice tools. I'm sure that many of these things would not be applicable for PC's, but I do need some very transparent network file system. I am looking for responses from people that have put together a network of PC's and which vendors are hot/not. Basically good and bad experiences with this kind of stuff. Because I have worked with those larger machines, my expectations for this network are fairly high. Remember, user transparency is of utmost importance. Please respond directly to me so as not to clutter up the news. I will gladly summarize if I get some requests to do so. Thanking all you network wizards out there in advance!
