[comp.dcom.lans] PC software for TCP/IP needed

howard@cos.UUCP (03/13/87)

We are implementing an interim 802.3 LAN enviroment using Bridge CS/1
TCP/IP servers, Sun 3's, PC AT clones with 3Com 802.3 boards, and
a yet-to-be selected data base host. TCP/IP and associated DDN
protocols will be used until we can convert to OSI.

There is one hole in our environment, and I'd appreciate any help in
locating tools to fill it. We would like to put dial-out modem pools
on the Bridge servers, accessible to the PC's.

While the PC's will use NFS and DDN protocols for LAN communications,
they also need to be able to dial out with PC-oriented software
(e.g., QMODEM, KERMIT, BLAST, XMODEM, etc.). To do this,
we need a piece of software which makes a TCP/IP
virtual connection to the modem through the Bridge server
look like the PC serial port to the async communications software.
Anyone out there have or know of such a serial port simulator
for a TCP/IP connection under MS-DOS? Apparently, Bridge has
something of this sort for XNS, but not TCP/IP.
