I recently monitored the broadcast traffic on the Campus ethernet and broke it down by protocol (all figures approximate): (I'm refering to a logical ethernet consisting of several physical ethernets connected by DEC bridges). protocol packets/sec # hosts XNS 2.8 2 Internet (IP+ARP) 1.0 90 Dec protocols <.1 30 Is it normal for two XNS hosts to generate so much broadcast traffic? If so, what happens when you have 100 or more such hosts?
