Summary: We have several vaxes that run either VMS and Ultrix and talk on ethernet. We want to talk to two IBM system 38's that talk together on a X.25 network. At present our vaxes talk on ethernet. What we need is to talk to the system 38 with something other then sneaker net. What we want is a tcp/ip implementation for the system 38, with ftp,telnet,smtp,ect... Solutions we have looked at: 1. Dec SNA gateway software/hardware Our Dec sales person has told us the current implementation of SNA on the 38 will not support a connection to dec's gateway. 2. Kodaks Syncra software/hardware We have only looked at the manuals but it seems that they implement a black box solution. Their software will transfer files and provide terminal emulation, but only with menu driven utilities, no hooks into the software to build our own applications. They run tcp/ip on the LAN but you can't do anything with it. Possibilities: 1. The system 38's run some kind of X.25 network. I don't know anything about x.25, is there some equivalent to ftp, smtp ect...? I do know there are boxes made that do ethernet to x.25 bridging. 2. Unknown vendor of tcp/ip for the 38 3. Hyper-channel? It seems thought that there are no real flexible solutions. Any suggestions I could get that would provide possibilities or solutions would be gratefully accepted.
