We have a pc-net with 16 IBM-ATs and 3COM Software based on the XNS protocol connected with the thin koax-cable ( RG58U ), and some 500 meters away an TCP/IP based Ethernet ( the big yellow one ) with a number of Unix Clones, including a uVAXII running 4.3 BSD and a number of XEROX workstations. We want to realize some sort of file transfer between these two nets and possibly remote login from pc to Unix. The only information I could get are as follwos: I understand that 4.3BSD is able to listen on the Ethernet for XNS packets. Also, 3COM plans to develop a TCP/IP based net software. Serial lines exist between the two locations, in the near future we will get a fibre optic connection. Who can make suggestions to connect these two nets? The first step should be a serial connection possibly with some sort of Communication Server like the one from Bridge. Second, we will try to establish the connection with the fibre optics.
