I was contacted earlier in the week by one of Bridge's software products managers. This individual assured me that the problem that I had discussed on the network with the Bridge Terminal Server Telnet functionality was being addressed now, and that Bridge had actually decided about two months ago to undertake the modification to their Telnet software. It was further explained to me that a net mail message explaining this to me was sent about a month ago when I first discussed this problem on the net. That mail message never arrived and so I was unaware of this information. This has been part of the problem, that is, not succeeding in communicating with the right people at Bridge in a timely manner! Certainly we initiated enough phone calls via our local salesman, and to the "factory." Alas, this is hopefully history. I now have spoken with the right person and now have established real communications with Bridge. Bridge will deliver the new software in Beta release on or about Aug 15 and has offered to let us test it, which we are interested in doing. The problem I complained about was the lack of a user command in the terminal server user interface to allow requesting the other end of the Telnet connection (in my case VMS VAXes with Excelan TCP/IP Exos boards) to enter binary mode. I have been assured this is underway and will be available soon. Steven Ward Harvard-Smithsonian Observatory {seismo, ihnp4}!harvard!cfa!ward (617)495-7201
