[comp.dcom.lans] "Null modem" cable for ethernet?

david@ms.uky.edu (David Herron -- Resident E-mail Hack) (08/27/87)

I vaguely recall seeing this discussed before, but don't remember the
result...

anyway, we have an across-campus ethernet of sorts on our UB Broadband
system and a "buffered repeater" which attaches our ethernet to that.
We want to have one of our machines act as a gateway between our ethernet
and the campus net (so that our NFS traffic doesn't go out over the whole
campus for instance). The normal way to do this is to wire up a short
segment of ether-cable with two transceivers on it.

Is there a way to wire directly from the DEQNA in the uVaxII to the similar
conector on the buffered repeater? (All in the interest of saving
a few hundred bucks).
