[comp.dcom.lans] Ethernet protocol type codes

nancy@ftp.COM (Nancy Connor) (03/03/88)

I've gotten several requests to post my revised version of the
Ethernet protocol type codes. I've also put the file ether-prot.h
onto our vax for FTP by those who have access. Thanks to everyone for
updating the table, and I will continue to make changes as I receive
them. Codes marked with question marks in the description are those
from people who have said "I think this code might be this..."

I do have two questions regarding these codes. First, the assigned
numbers RFC lists 1600 as Valid and 5208 as BBN Simnet, but a number
of people have said that 1600 is BBN Simnet. Could someone who is
sure about these particular codes let me know what the correct numbers
are?

Second, someone asked me if there is a region of codes reserved for
local protocols. Does anyone know of any such convention?
