[comp.dcom.lans] nomogram for time-to-transmit wanted

pricejk@lafcol.UUCP (Price Janet K) (03/06/88)

At a conference I attended some time ago someone displayed a diagram
that gave file sizes in one column, transmission rates in a second
column, and times-to-transmit in a third column. The scales were such
that if you drew a line from a file size in column one to a transmission
rate in column two and extended the line to column three, you'd have the
total time taken to transmit that file at that rate. I'd like to put a
copy of this in my computer center newsletter to accompany a discussion
about transmission speeds on networks. If anyone has a copy, I'd
appreciate your sending it to me via US mail. Thanks in advance.

See the last few issues of IEEE Communications Magazine. The chart you
are referring to (I think) is the Gordon Bell Nomogram. If it isn't in
IEEE Communications, then try IEEE Network. Sorry, but I can't remember
the exact issue.
