I'm hacking on the CMU version of Netwatch, and wondered if anyone could help me out. I'm looking for a good basic primer on ethernet protocols, including TCP/IP. I'm also looking to find a list of the "vendor prefixes" for various card manufacturers, ie - the three high order bytes of the ethernet address which identify the vendor. I want to modify the program to recognize more vendors. Finally, I am looking for information about multicasts - does anyone have a good explanation of how I can distinguish them? Oops, almost forgot - also, does anyone know what "type" 3COM and U/B and Novell use for their ethernet packets. My version of netwatch now recognizes Banyan packets, many other DECnet packets, plus the original IP packet types. I'm also modifying the filters to be more flexible (AND, OR, and NOT on address or type, or specific bytes in the packet, or particular sizes, etc), and to allow an option to save a session. Anyone have anything else they'd like to see while I'm at it? Thanks a bunch. -- =============================================================================== Scott A.
