Point of information: the Chaos protocols are not TCP-derivative. They
were developed independently at the MIT AI Laboratory just before or
at about the same time as TCP was first being worked on. The Chaosnet
protocols were developed along with the Chaosnet hardware, which is
pretty much gone today.  They look a lot like TCP except that Chaos
addresses are smaller, the reliable stream protocol is sequences
blocks of data rather than bytes, and the "IP" and "TCP"-like parts of
it are smooshed together, Chaos has 'contact names' rather than well
known ports...well, the Chaos protocols bear some resemblance, anyway.
