[comp.dcom.lans] Novell ANET problem on '386

David_J_Buerger@cup.portal.com (05/13/88)

Recently I upgraded my 10 MHz 0 wait state '286 AT for a '386.
I bought the Mylex 20 MHz motherboard and a faster drive/controller.

My other components stayed, including a 3COM 3C501 ethernet card.
The card works fine in the '386 when I use TELNET to call my VAX 8650
over the ethernet line, but fails when I use ANET3 (I use DOS 3.1) to
dial my Novell server over the same line. Both connections worked fine
on the '286.

The Novell connection does work only if I slow the '386 system clock
speed down from 20 MHz to 8 MHz. Anyone have another version of ANET3
that will work at the faster clock speed? It's an annoyance, plus when
I dial in remotely with Carbon Copy 4.0, CC doesn't seem to recognize the
CTRL-ALT-MINUS combination needed to slow the clock speed. Thanks.
