Having worked with EIA RS232, IBM COAX, Ethernet (THICK and THIN) and fiberoptics, I am curious about BROAD BAND. I know what BROAD BAND is, I am looking for info from sites who have gone through the process of using broad band. In such a case were CATV is active and a set frequencey is put asside for DATA, what methods are available for this. The COAX cable I assume will be 75ohm and will feed building then once entering a building would split/branch out to each room giveing cable tv access, what I would like to know is what methods work best for also supporting BI-DIRECTIONAL data over this broad band CATV system. Most users would be ASYNC and not LAN users, so is there some simple device that you can put in the room to provide one or two ASYNC ports like a one or two port LAT (DECserver). And then just how would I extract out the DATA part of the cable and bring it in to out data network. Please reply to me via E-mail if possible. Since othere may be interested I will try to consolodate and post any information obtained. -- ___ ___ ___ Steve Good ...uunet!ccicpg!cci632!ritcsh!steveg |@/o o\@| @/- -\@ @/o o\@ Network Administrator BITNET%"SNGDCO@RITVAXD" | \ o / | / o \ \/-\/ Rochester Institute of Technology (716)475-2702 \ --- / | --- | /---\ "I hear nothing, I see nothing, I say nothing" Shultz
