[comp.dcom.lans] Linking remote ethernets-3002-isdn

pjg@tahoe.unr.edu (Paul Graham) (05/24/88)

We're about to link some distant ethernets together and would like any insights
the net has to offer.

Our configuration:
Net A: Ethernet on broadband (chipcom) with some suns and a couple of 4.3bsd
 machines. Suns running 3.5.

Net B: Suns (3.5) and an old isi (on a q-bus) box running 4.3.

Net C: Sun 4 and Vax (vms).

There will be an 56(64?)k isdn line from net-A to net-b and a traditional
(4-wire) leased 56k line from net-A to net-C. We think a filtering bridge
is the way to go and are considering things from bridge (ib) or vitalink
(translan). We have also heard of some boards from RAD that plug into an
ibm pc-at chasis.

Does this seem resonable? Has anyone anything to say about the RAD product?

I've heard about dsu/csu boxes to convert at&t DDS service to v.35 and just a
little about something called a DTU that's supposed to do the same thing for
ISDN. Is this correct? Does someone have a vendor or does this come only
from the ``phone company''?

Lastly is v.35 the way to go on the 56k leased line?
