[net.unix-wizards] microVAX question

gamiddleton@thunder.UUCP (Guy Middleton) (06/12/85)

Does anybody know if 4.3bsd (if it ever becomes available, that is) will run
on a microVAX II? Thanks.

The MicroVax II emulates some of the character string instructions (spanc,
skipc, movc, cmpc, et al.) via traps, and the trap code is not in 4.3.
Other than that, 4.3 would run on a uVax II, though where you'd get Qbus
drivers I don't know. (I know nothing about the Qbus.)

Better yet, just buy Ultrix.

Sorry to bother everyone, but I just realized that something in that
followup I just made could be misleading. The uVax II does indeed emulate
some of the character string instructions, but---while I don't have a
complete list---movc3 and movc5 are notable exceptions. (Don't worry
guys, bcopy is still fast. :-) )
